Munich/Regensburg, Germany/Hudson, Ohio — 24.05.2022. Diebold Nixdorf is one of the world's leading providers of connected retail solutions in retail and the financial sector. They have announced the launch of Vynamic® Digital Receipt, an intelligent way to reduce the amount of environmentally harmful thermal paper receipts.
Consumers can receive digital receipts via a QR code at the POS or via the retailer's app without having to register, so that consumers can access digital receipts at any time. Retailers can use the valuable customer touchpoint and add promotions and offers to strengthen customer loyalty and loyalty while saving costs and protecting the environment.
The environmentally harmful and cost-intensive thermal paper receipt was yesterday
In retail, there is no transaction without the issuance of a receipt, because retailers must issue receipts in order to act in accordance with legal guidelines. Should consumers want to return items or claim a warranty, then a receipt is mandatory even for the process that is still manual today.
The current use of thermal paper as a receipt produces tons of printed receipts, which often end up in the trash. However, more and more retailers want to position themselves more sustainably and reduce costs, but this is less the case with the traditionally environmentally harmful and relatively expensive version of the printed receipt. Consumers are also very angry: printed receipts are often not found again or have already faded when the receipt is needed.
Diebold Nixdorf and anybill digitize the receipt
Diebold Nixdorf is helping retailers and customers digitize this process now. Based on anybill technology, the company has integrated Vynamic® Digital Receipt into its POS solution ecosystem, the cloud-native Vynamic® Retail Platform, which acts as a sustainable interface to the customer. Instead of just offering printed receipts, retailers can present a QR code on the customer screen, which is legally compliant in many countries. Customers can scan this code without having to register. The receipt can be saved on their mobile device so they no longer have to worry about recovering scraps of paper or fading.
Another big winner is the environment: A typical supermarket can save 1 ton of waste, 50,000 liters of water, 10,000 kWh of energy and 1 ton of carbon dioxide per year if all receipts are created digitally*. Retailers themselves benefit from the significant savings that can be made with digital receipts compared to the cost of thermal paper, an improved footprint, and more: they can add additional content to digital receipts to promote promotions and recommendations based on the current purchase.
Alternatively, digital receipts can be integrated into existing retail apps and anonymous customers can be invited to participate in a loyalty program. Every time they buy something, they scan the customer card, which is displayed via the consumer app or their digital wallet, and benefit from loyalty rewards when linked to their loyalty card.
