Munich/Regensburg, Germany/Hudson, Ohio – May 24, 2022. Diebold Nixdorf is one of the world's leading providers of Connected Retail solutions for the retail and financial industries. Diebold Nixdorf announced the launch of Vynamic® Digital Receipt, a smart way to reduce the amount of environmentally harmful thermal paper receipts.
Consumers can receive digital receipts via a QR code at the POS or via the retailer's app without having to register, allowing consumers to access digital receipts at any time. Retailers can leverage the valuable customer touchpoint and add promotions and offers to increase customer loyalty and retention while saving costs and protecting the environment.
There is no transaction without the issuance of a receipt because retailers must issue receipts in order to operate according to legal guidelines. Should consumers want to return items or claim warranty, then a receipt is mandatory even for the process that is still manual today.
The current use of thermal paper as a receipt produces tons of printed receipts that often end up in the trash. However, more and more retailers want to position themselves more sustainably and reduce costs, but this is less likely to happen with the conventional environmentally harmful and relatively expensive variant of the printed receipt. Furthermore, consumers are also very annoyed since printed receipts are often lost or have already faded by the time the receipt is needed.
Diebold Nixdorf supports retailers and customers to digitize this process now. Based on the technology from anybill, the company has integrated Vynamic® Digital Receipt into its POS solution ecosystem of the cloud native Vynamic® Retail Platform, performing as sustainable interface to the customer. Instead of offering printed receipts only, retailers can present a QR code at the customer screen, which is compliant in many countries. Customers can scan this code without the need to be registered. The receipt can be stored on their mobile device, so they don’t have to care about restoring paper shreds or fading anymore.
Another big winner is the environment: A typical supermarket can reduce 1 ton of waste, 50,000 liters of water, 10,000 kWh energy and 1 ton of carbon dioxide per year when all receipts are created digitally*. The retailers themselves benefit from significant savings achievable with digital receipts compared to thermal paper costs, an improved footprint and even more: They can add additional content to digital receipts to advertise promotions and recommendations based the current purchase.
Alternatively, digital receipts can be integrated into existing retailer apps and anonymous customers can be invited to join a loyalty program. Each time they buy something, they scan the customer card that is displayed via consumer app or their digital wallet and benefit from loyalty rewards when linked to their loyalty card.
